New update from today: http://www.bgtguide.com/bgt/project2011/photosjuly20

If you think Busch Gardens is themed bad, you need to visit a Six Flags park.

Say all you want but some Six Flags rides now do have better themes than BGT rides. Go ride Terminator and then go ride SheiKra and tell me which one has the better theme. As far as this coasted is concerned a theme would be pretty nice. Even if you don't have to wait very long for BGT rides themed ques would be nice.

I came up with this theory. Well, a few pages back I posted the thought of turning the Edge of Africa Gift Shop into the gift shop/on-ride photo booth of the new coaster. It's because of this theory... could the Crown Colony area become the entrance plaza?

I remember reading a rumor on Screamscape a few months back that they were going to shut down some of the Edge of Africa for the queue line. I came up with the theory that BGT will turn the Edge of Africa entrance from the Skyride/Crown Colony area into the entrance of the coaster. A few things that prove my point... the Edge of Africa Gift Shop is closed off behind construction walls, increasing the possibility of it becoming the gift shop, and some work is occurring around the Crown Colony restaurant area (with even construction walls going up), increasing the possibility of the Crown Colony area becoming the entrance plaza.

I'm not trying to start up a rumor or anything, just a theory.

^Two things,

Do you mean new entry plaza for the park?

The only problem with using part of the Edge of Africa for part of the queue is the railroad that run in between them. Maybe if they over or under it but unlikely.

If Busch Gardens wanted to get rid of the Edge Of Africa i do not think that they would have made that new walk way. i have a feeling that the queue and animal exhibit(s) will be in front and inside of the monorail building.

I actually mean the entrance plaza of the coaster.

I don't mean ALL of the Edge of Africa. I meant SOME of the Edge of Africa:

(3/5/10) I’m told that BGT has placed the frame for a new topiary of a Cheetah out near the old stable area. Given that this area may be very close to rumored station for the 2011 coaster, everyone is wondering if this is a hint as to the theme of the ride. I’ve got to admit, I’ve heard that the coaster could very well have a Cheetah theme too, which was thought to go along with the coaster’s multiple launch zones and overall theme. The popular rumor is that this new coaster was inspired by Maverick at Cedar Point, and will be low to the ground and very fast. You can see a picture of the new topiary at Florida Thrills.
As for the rest of the rumors… well several sources have confirmed hearing that the water portion of Rhino Rally is on the way out. To make up for it, new animal display areas will be added to Rhino Rally, which will expand further out into the Serengeti instead. As for the old water portion of the ride… we’ve heard from a couple of people that sections of it may be reused for the new 2011 speed coaster project to house one of the themed launch zones. For whatever reason, this themed area may involve some water, putting some of the Rhino Rally equipment to use somehow. As for the Rally… I’ve also heard speculation that new vehicles may be under consideration. The old fleet is certainly showing it’s age, and I’m told that management was always reluctant to replace them due to the damage caused daily by the water portion of the ride. With the water portion on the way out… new Rally trucks could be on the way in.
Taking a nod from some of the newest Busch park creations, they want this coaster to have an extensive queue that will include animal habitats and displays along the way. Realizing that the Edge of Africa area is right next to the proposed new station building, don’t be surprised to see some of this area redesigned and repurpose to serve as the queue for the new coaster. To allow for this and possibly to send traffic around the construction area, we may see a new pathway built to take guests from the pathway near Rhino Rally and the Train Station over to the Edge of Africa.
So the bottom line here is that this whole unknown project that is just starting may very well turn into several projects that we’ll see open up over the next 2-4 years. A new coaster, a greatly expanded and changed Rhino Rally experience as well as an expanded Edge of Africa, and possibly much more. The train for example, could be changed too. Various survey markers near the Skyway station are apparently labeled “C/L Rail”, where C/L stands for Center Line, indicating a possible new layout for how the train will wind through this area of the park.

Do you mean to say they are re-using the skyride building for the coaster building? Because skyride will be reopening sometime so I wouldn't see the point of making a whole new station for that. Although, it is strange they've been clearing out the skyride building.

SkyRide isn't leaving. The coaster will be housed where the old monorail building it now (the building you walked through before getting to SkyRide's station).

The old monorail station is being reused for the station, not the Skyride. And they're mainly clearing out the old monorail station, not the actual Skyride station, in preparation for station work.

That makes alot more sense, thanks. Anyone else pissed there will now be two cheetah themed coasters in the park? I say they give Cheetah Chase a new paint job and a new name, a cheetah doesn't even match the Timbuktu theme anyway.

Yeah but it's just strange, you never really have two coasters in one park with the exact same concept

Just and roller coaster should never be used in the same sentence.

It would be cool if they changed Cheetah Chase from Cheetahs to Ostriches. That would be interesting

Haha or maybe an animal indigenous to Timbuktu. I think they should have put the coaster station somewhere along the walkway from Egypt to Timbuktu, because the only ride along that way is Rhino Rally

Not the most recent footage - 20th July - but it does gives a nice moving overview of what is going on.

Nothing to report as of right now unfortunately, the site has really slowed down in areas we can clearly see. Most of the current work going on is in and around the former monorail building, sky ride building and behind rhino rally. I am thinking we will begin to see major vertical construction late September or early October.

If Manta is anything to go by, this should be exactly the time track arrives and goes up. Johnnyupsidedown's Sept. 20th update first showed vertical construction.

Edit: SheiKra was a bit later, however. It's track went up in early November.
